…trying to work out whether to rewrite the show, edit it down or just turn it into a sketch-show with guest stand-ups, as the show just isn’t working, if anything it’s leaving the audience slightly bewildered. They laugh, they enjoy it, but it’s possibly as hard to watch the show as it is to perform.
I also think an early afternoon slot for this show was wrong. This is a show of two halves; part play, part sketch-show. The play suits the early afternoon slot, but the sketches don’t. The characters do, but the language doesn’t. I need the audience sober to enjoy the play, but drunk to enjoy the sketches. I’ve effectively written myself into a corner.
Am actually thinking about pitching today’s show more as a “play with funny bits”, as it doesn’t work as a comedy. Sigh!
